Kodály Conducts Kodály preserves the composer conducting his own Concerto for Orchestra and Summer Evening, recorded in Budapest in 1960. The program also includes the Háry János Suite from a 1961 Berlin recording. These composer-led performances provide direct documentation of Kodály’s approach to his orchestral music.
Collector Note
This 1989 German Deutsche Grammophon CD was issued as part of the Deutsche Grammophon Dokumente series under catalog number 427 408-2. The Concerto for Orchestra and Summer Evening were recorded at Qualiton Studios in Budapest in July 1960, while the Háry János Suite was recorded at the Jesus Christus-Kirche in Berlin in November 1961.
